Cable ties can look alike, yet appearance alone tells you little about locking performance or suitable conditions of use. UL certification adds evaluation against defined requirements and continuing checks that production remains consistent with those requirements. Here are answers to common buyer questions.
Can a manufacturer simply pay for UL certification?
No. Testing and certification have costs, but payment does not establish conformity. The certification body evaluates product information and samples against the applicable safety requirements. Those requirements must be met to obtain certification.
Cable ties are evaluated under applicable standards such as UL 62275 and their product classification. This goes beyond pulling a tie by hand: declared performance and uses are assessed under defined conditions.
| Performance to check | Why it matters to a buyer |
|---|---|
| Loop tensile strength | Assesses the strap and lock together when fastened. It is not a long-term suspended-load rating. |
| Operating and installation temperatures | Match both the operating range and installation temperature to the application. |
| Outdoor and UV conditions | For outdoor use, check the evaluation and marking for that use separately. |
Does certification end after the first approval?
No. UL Follow-Up Services check that manufactured products continue to meet certification requirements. UL describes an initial production inspection followed by unannounced visits, during which randomly selected production samples are compared with those requirements. Discrepancies are documented for follow-up action.
Initial evaluation establishes a starting point; follow-up inspections check whether production continues to conform. A certificate therefore represents an ongoing obligation beyond the initial approval.

At Suryong Industrial, quality is a basic production priority. We take samples from the production line each day to help maintain quality consistent with UL safety certification requirements. Checks include appearance, insertion, bending, tensile strength and locking performance.
These daily checks are our own production quality control. They do not mean UL visits every day or that every individual tie is tested. Certification-body inspections and manufacturer sampling have different roles, and both support continuing quality control.
Why choose certified cable ties?
- A basis for comparison Compare applicable requirements and ratings rather than relying on appearance or a general claim of strength.
- Continuing production oversight Follow-up procedures address production conformity beyond the initial sample evaluation.
- Documentation for purchasing Check certification information against equipment requirements and document the purchasing decision.
Four things to check before buying
- Identity and file: match the manufacturer and certification file number to the supplied product documentation.
- Covered product: check the model, size, color and manufacturing location, even within the same brand.
- Conditions of use: match length, width, bundle diameter, strength, temperatures and outdoor markings to the application.
- Document type: distinguish a UL94 resin flame rating, a RoHS test report and UL certification of the finished product.
The UL safety certification file number for Korean-made ALLPUM AP-series ties is E525872. Check the certification and product documentation for the covered scope. This certification does not extend to Thai-made products or all other specialty products.
A certification mark does not mean suitability for every environment or unlimited service life. Check product ratings alongside site conditions and follow the appropriate installation and storage instructions.
